FDC are doing our bit for the planet.
We have made sustainability an integral part of our operations and development.
We are very happy to announce that we have successfully completed
our third annual carbon footprint report (December 2022).
We have achieved a reduction in emissions of 20.1% per £M turnover against our previous years assessment.
Our annual reporting allows us to closely monitor our emissions and identify areas for improvement.
For example, this led to the installation of our solar photovoltaic (PV) system
which allows us to generate electricity from the sun.
This serves as a source of renewable energy which contributes to lowering
our overall carbon footprint and environmental impact.
Our commitment.
Our first GHG emission assessment by Carbon Footprint Ltd
(1st of March 2019 to 29th February 2020), chosen prior to the Covid-19 pandemic,
will act as our baseline for comparisons going forward.
We pledge to assess, report, and offset our carbon emissions annually.
These annual reports will also allow us to monitor and identify areas where we can reduce our emissions.
We hope this transparency not only demonstrates to our customers our commitment to doing our bit as a small business,
but in turn motivates other businesses to do the same.
Our Carbon Footprint Results.
79.9% of our total emissions associated with transport and distribution, with emissions from sea freight
accounting for the greatest source of 58.3%.
Sea freight has the lowest emissions per km and unit transport alongside transport via rail (European Environment Agency 2023)
Our next largest source of emissions comes from our FDC van fleet 18.3%, followed by lorry freight 17.9%.
On the right track.
67% of consumers feel more positive about companies that are committed to measuring
and reducing their carbon footprint (YouGov 2019 survey).
